Grotto Bay Bahamas    

With its unusual combination of sandy beachfront, tropical gardens and a dramatic cave system, Grotto Bay definitely is no ordinary vacation rental resort.   Its owners -- Jeannie Pierce and Kris Newman – moved here from California in 2000 and created their hidden hideaway, building the beach house and two studios and planting the gardens.

Facing the Bahama Banks, the private cove is typically very calm and perfect for swimming, snorkeling (we provide snorkel gear) and paddle boarding. Among the jetties snorkelers find a teeming nursery of tropical fish, and along the shoreline turtles cruise, munching on turtle grass and occasionally coming up for air.  On rare occasions even manatees stop by!  

Kayaks and paddle boards are complimentary and available any time from their rack on the beach. Just offshore lie small uninhabited cays within easy kayaking distance.  Guests can walk around the cay nearest us, picnic on the beach, and even cast a line to tailing bonefish or fat mutton snapper (great for the barbecue!). Long Island is particularly well known for its bonefishing and eco-tours.  We can help you arrange guides for each.

It’s only a few steps from bedroom to beach where chaise lounges await for relaxing in the sun, and hammocks when it’s time for a snooze.  If you’re feeling energetic, throw some shoes – horseshoes that is -- on our regulation horseshoe pit!  

In the evening a special treat is gathering around the fire pit, watching a gorgeous sunset-over-the-ocean while grilling lobster tails or your catch of the day!

Grotto Bay has two beachfront rentals with a massive deck, and an open-air guest kitchen.  The two-bedroom beach house features an inspiring 200 degree ocean view. There will never be a crowd -- in fact the only strangers wandering through are herons and shore birds!

Around the resort, hibiscus, bougainvillea and frangipani provide shade and beauty.  Citrus and papaya trees, bananas, cotton and native hardwoods dot the property and nearby lies an extensive cave system with its grotto and three massive chambers, all available for cave exploration.  

The first week of June is especially exciting here – this is when Bahamian sailboats race in the Long Island Regatta, and it all takes place literally off of Grotto Bay's own beach!
